Cheryl Tay – Singapore’s Female Motoring Journalist & Motorsports Blogger
Meet Cheryl Tay – a female in a male-dominated world, Cheryl is Singapore’s only female full-time motoring journalist and motorsports blogger and she regular writes for prominent titles in Singapore, Asia and internationally.
Through her work, Cheryl has travelled abroad for international test drives, motorsports events as well as for motor races from Formula 1 in Singapore to World Karting Series in Italy to MotoGP in UK. She has also attended various driver training programmes like the Michelin Pilot Experience and Audi Sportscar Experience.
So what’s new with Cheryl? Well, recently Cheryl was appointed as the F1 in Schools National Ambassador. She’s excited with this new role as she’ll get to share her experiences with youth her interest to educate and create more awareness about motoring and motorsports.
F1 in Schools is a global multi-disciplinary challenge where teams of students aged nine to 19 deploy CAD (Computer Aided Design)/CAM (Computer Aided Manufacture) software to collaborate, design, analyse, manufacture, test and race miniature gas-powered balsa wood F1 cars.
One of Cheryl’s aims in life is to create a multimedia platform – think Oprah Winfrey but for cars and motorsports (ie. website, magazine, radio show, TV shows etc.) – that promotes motoring and motorsports to the general public and also give recognition to individuals and outlets.
She would also like to write a book! She added on…or as many books as she can…Cheryl – I’m guessing these will be motoring sport based?
Cheryl believes that each individual is their own source of inspiration. If you are not inspired by yourself, she believes one just has to set goals, believe in one’s own potential and create that inner desire to achieve the dreams you set for yourself.
What’s something people don’t know about Cheryl? Well…she loves to bake! Cookies, brownies, cakes, Tiramisu, cupcakes – basically anything made from scratch and not out of a quick mix box. (Cheryl – My supply of cookies is all gone! :-p ) Another thing some might not know is how she did a solo flight in a little Piper Warrior during her Youth Flying Club days – she flew a plane before she drove a car!
Cheryl – I’m so glad I got a chance to photograph you in the studio…now…let’s set up that time to get out on the Go Kart – I promise not to be a princess!
“The only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven’t found yet, keep looking. Don’t settle. As with all matters of the heart, you’ll know when you find it.” – Steve Jobs
