A Visit to the Sabah Museum in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysia
Looking for some history and culture whilst in Kota Kinabalu? Do check out the Sabah Museum – which is located just off Jalan Penampang.
Now the unique thing about this museum is that besides the main building, it also comprises the Science and Technology Centre, the Heritage Village, Ethno-Botanical Garden and the Sabah Islamic Civilization Museum. At a low cost of RM15, it’s a great little spot to take a good walk around and explore!
The place that stood out the most for me would have to be the traditional village huts area, which we came across while at the Heritage Village. It was definitely interesting to view Sabah traditional houses in such a small area! It’s quite interesting for the kids as they get to move around, climb up ladders and explore all the ‘old’ – furniture, beds, kitchens and kitchenware. We also chanced upon a Murut longhouse with a lansaran (trampoline) – now that was a surprise and lots of fun! [Now...keep this in mind, I've lived in Kota Kinabalu and although I'd hear about this I had never seen this before]
What’s more is that all this is just 5 minutes away from the city centre – so be adventurous and take a bus down, but be prepared to get those walking shoes on!
